Water

"Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit."

Jeremiah 17:8,9

Not too long ago I was scrambling to finish my last project paper and prepping for my finals at the same time. One month down the road, and I'm finding myself starting the cycle all over again! Only this time, I'm in the lab more than in the lecture theatre.

Today I ran through the first practical of the course (plasmid mapping by multiple restriction endonuclease digests) with my new found friend and lab partner D. We made a few screw ups along the way - loading the wrong DNA sample into a certain well in our gel, spilling the TAE buffer on a certain someone's foot, getting suspicious band patterns from partial digests, waiting ONE hour in line to use the UV transilluminator which promptly took its own sweet time to load when it came to our turn - but overall it went well. We had fun! (With lots of banter in between to keep ourselves sufficiently entertained during waiting periods).

I loooove my lab so far. The TAs have a sense of humour and really enjoy interacting with the students, my benchmates are chummy and my lab partner's my easy-going banter partner :) I've really have been blessed with good relationships with the people around me so far. This semester moves fast though (first CA is in 1.5 weeks) and I'm wondering how things will go when the stress is turned up.

For now though, I'm thankful for this awesome opportunity to LEARN from my profs and my TA. Going to make full use of their approachability to tap da power! Muahahaha :)

Ahem. Now that I've had some time to calm down, here's a less cryptic, sane-er take of the situation.

I'll be working with magnetotactic bacteria for a year (: More specifically, I'll be learning to culture them (under anaerobic conditions), isolate their magnetosomes and study their component protein expression, regulation and assembly.

It will be challenging. I'm going to have to learn new protocol, get along with my supervising prof, juggle other projects with this one and overcome set-backs/ screw-ups/ blatant ignorance, BUT for better or for worse, for richer or poorer, well or unwell, I'm IN!

And for all this, I really have to thank my God. You see my heart.

Thank YOU! Your promises are TRUE!

But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness
And all these things will be added unto you.

Thank you Lord.

I noticed the bathroom bathed in a rich warm tawny gold the minute I entered. It was the the colour of a golden sunset, simply breathtaking. And immediately, immediately, such indescribable joy.

Have I told you lately that I love you
Have I told you theres no one else above you
Fill my heart with gladness
Take away all my sadness
Ease my troubles thats what you do

For the morning sun in all its glory
Greets the day with hope and comfort too
You fill my life with laughter
And somehow you make it better
Ease my troubles thats what you do
Theres a love thats divine
And its yours and its mine like the sun
And at the end of the day
We should give thanks and pray
To the One, to the One.

It is good to give thanks to the Lord
From the rising of the sun to the setting of the same.
