Water

"Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit."

Jeremiah 17:8,9

How lovely is your dwelling place,
O LORD Almighty!
My soul yearns, even faints,
for the courts of the LORD;
my heart and my flesh cry out
for the living God.

Blessed are those whose strength is in you,
who have set their hearts on pilgrimage.
As they pass through the Valley of Baca (tears),
they make it a place of springs;
the autumn rains also cover it with pools.
They go from strength to strength,
till each appears before God in Zion.

Better is one day in your courts
than a thousand elsewhere;
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
For the LORD God is a sun and shield;
the LORD bestows favor and honor;
no good thing does he withhold
from those whose walk is blameless.

O LORD Almighty,
blessed is the man who trusts in you.

Psalm 84: 1-2, 5-7, 10-12.

Was looking through some old photos and came across these:

Becky!

Sarah!

The three of us (with Shen Kiat and Joel) at Hong Kong Kim GARY's after Juno :)
All this just months ago in April (?). How time flies.

A friend was sharing with me her struggles in trusting God. She isn't sure of God's plan for her life - where she'll be in a year's time, or what she'll be doing. She has, at best, a one-year plan. And after that, uncertainty. She isn't sure of which doors will open, and which doors will shut. She's trying to reconcile the work that she wants to do (for God) and the current setbacks that she's facing in realizing those aspirations. Just one semester ago, she was sure of God's direction for her. Now, she isn't as certain of the details of her path as she was before.

Her sharing taught me a thing or two about Trust.

Trust isn't an abstract concept.

You cannot truly say that you've trusted unless you've been tried.

You cannot claim to know what it is to trust until you have, quite simply, trusted!

My friend and I both agreed that her current struggles are a lesson in trusting God.

He is teaching her to pray:

'Lord, I don't know what Your plan for my life is. I know the work I would love to do for Your glory. Help me to trust in Your good plan and Your sovereignty over all the struggles that I'm facing. Help me to stop worrying over all the uncertainties that loom in the months and years ahead. Let my desire be to seek You, more than The Plan. Help me to trust and remain always in You.'

Perhaps this is what it means to live by faith:

To be constantly, actively seeking God all the days of our lives - desiring His leading, His direction and His calling - and yet, desiring all the more His person and presence with us on the journey.

To live with a million and one uncertainties enshrouding us, a veil over our future, yet in the certainty that our Father God, carrying us in His arms, faces the future with us, with crystal clarity.

He turns His face to look ahead of us, His countenance full of wisdom, abounding in love.

His gaze pierces the veil.

He is our Shepherd, who will lead, guide, walk beside and defend.

What have we to fear?
