Today, I talked with my mum about the financial crisis, the biomedical industry in singapore, the lack of demand for conservation biologists, graduate scholarships, funding bias, singapore’s financial outlook, financial security for singaporeans in the future, the problem of our dependence on the world market and global economy, the problem of unregulated open market ‘free’ trade, the pursuit of economic growth as top priority, social problems that arise out of high-pressured, results-oriented, fast-paced lifestyle in singapore, the need for the church to make a stand against exploitation of the poor, our government’s responsibility to the poor, organ trading, demand and supply, the sanctity of human life, embryonic stem cell research, Britain’s legislation of human-animal chimera research, ethical boundaries, conforming to ‘the world’ in tension with conforming to Christ, the shaping power of the majority worldview in society, at work, in school, having the mind of Christ, the influence of consumerism on the way we approach ministry in the church and Christian discipleship, amongst other things.
Opportunities like this come once-a-week for me when I'm home over the weekend and not in PGP.
It was a good talk :) I think we both enjoyed it.
She will miss us when we're all away and the house is empty come January.
Must make weekend-time with my mum real quality time.
